Ecological Succession's Role in Maintaining Equilibrium
The sole purpose of ecological succession is for an ecosystem to reach a state of balance or rest after it has been formed or disturbed by man or an element such as fire. Eventually primary succession may lead to a community of organisms in equilibrium, which does not change drastically unless the ecosystem is
disturbed.Secondary succession helps an island such as Lawahii after it has been burned to the ground. By making the plants grow once again succesion plays a very important role in maintaining equilibrium.
Both primary and secondary succession play a very important role in maintaining equilibrium and without succession maintaing equilibrium would not be possible.
